Kilgore College recognized its student-athletes March 28 who excelled in both the classroom and athletic competition.

The special recognition ceremony honored 24 student-athletes who were accepted into the National College Athlete Honor Society as the Texas OXA Chapter of Theta Chi Alpha at KC – and also honored 28 athletes who earned spots on the Region XIV Conference All-Academic Team.

Region XIV All-Academic Team members must have completed 30 hours of college courses and must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or better on a 4.0 scale.

In order to be inducted into Theta Chi Alpha, a student-athlete must attend a two-year college that is a member of the NJCAA, CCCAA, FCSAA or NWAC.

Honorees also must have completed at least three full-time semesters and must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.4 (on a 4.0 scale) – while also participating in their varsity sport.

Portia Scott, English instructor, serves as the advisor for KC's chapter of Theta Chi Alpha.
