Bio
Gooden, a native of Hempstead (TX), was announced in January of 2019 as the Rangers' 16th head coach. Gooden took over for J.J. Eckert who accepted the head coaching position at Northeastern State University (NSU) in Tahlequah, Okla.
Gooden is in his 16th season as a coach for KC. In 2004, he started his coaching career at NSU as a student assistant defensive line coach. Gooden graduated from NSU in 2005 and became a graduate assistant defensive line coach, and in 2006 he became a Full Time Assistant Defensive line coach at NSU.
From 2007- 2018, he was an assistant coach for the Rangers. Gooden has been an assistant coach on both sides of the ball and has also coordinated on both sides of the ball at KC. He has been a part of a championship at every coaching assignment. In 2007 he was an offensive assistant in which KC was Conference Champs, 2012 defensive coordinator in which KC was Co-Conference Champs, 2015 Offensive Coordinator when KC was Region 14 Champs, and in 201,8 KC won Conference/Regional Championship in which Gooden was the Offensive Coordinator. Gooden was a walk-on player at KC, but quickly earned a starting position and was honored as All-Conference in 2000-01. He was also a member of the undefeated 2001 Ranger team under head coaching legend Jimmy Rieves.
Under Coach Gooden, the Rangers won the 2019 regular-season SWJCFC Championship and won the Regional Championship in 2022 with a 39-12 victory over New Mexico Military.
