Rangers sweep KC Classic with wins over Howard, McLennan

The No. 9 Kilgore College Rangers' basketball team improved to 6-1 on the season by winning both games in the KC Classic, Friday-Saturday, Nov. 18-19, at Masters Gymnasium.

In KC's game Friday, it defeated a talented Region 5 team, Howard College, 86-78. McLennan, Texas, 58-53 Kilgore, Texas Classic. KC shot 55.2 percent (16-of-29 goals) and got a solid one-two punch from Daveon Thomas (6'0 sophomore PG) with 27 points and CJ Luster (6'3 freshman PG) with 21 points.

Thomas also came up with 10 rebounds while teammate Kingsley Ijeoma (6'8 sophomore forward) had a game-best 13 points. Kilgore outrebounded Howard, 42-30.

In the first game of the classic, TJC defeated McLennan, 60-56.

In Saturday's game, KC got a 24-point game from Daveon Thomas and outscored McLennan in bench points, 20-6, to earn its fifth-consecutive victory.  KC's only loss on the season came to McLennan in Waco earlier in the season.

In the first game of the classic, Howard College defeated TJC, 85-76.

The KC men's next game is set for Tuesday, Nov. 29, at home versus Hill College.
