KC men improve to 6-0, Lady Rangers sit at 3-2
The Kilgore College men's basketball team, under first-year head coach Robert Byrd's leadership, are 6-0 to begin the season -- and the Lady Rangers are 3-2 after playing most of their games on the road against top-ranked opponents.
The men's team is coming off a 103-53 victory over the East Texas Baptist University developmental team Nov. 15 at Masters Gymnasium. KC was led in scoring by Jamil Muttilib who had 25 points. Other players in double-figures were Peter Mckey with 18 points, Willie Williams with 12 points, Kaleb Pouncy with 11 points and Thomas Hattaway -- who came off of the bench to score 19 points (5-of-7 from the three-point line).
The men have one more home game before the Thanksgiving break 3 p.m. versus Southwestern Christian in Masters Gym.
LADY RANGERS:
The Lady Rangers, under second-year head coach Stephanie Williams, are 3-2 on the young season with a tough non-conference schedule -- mostly road games.
They began the season 3-0 with wins against Copiah-Lincoln, SW Mississippi and ETBU JV. They narrowly lost their last two games to Collin College, 66-57, and Temple, 76-70, in Tyler.
In both of those losses, Nakiyah Allen had 14 points, Jazmyn Sostand had 10 rebounds and Nyla Inmon had 5 assists.
The Lady Rangers will travel Nov. 21 to face McLennan, then will participate in the Collin Classsic Nov. 24-25, facing Grayson Collin and Collin College.
They will close out their long pre-season road schedule with a matchup against Coahoma Community College before finally returning home to play Western Gulf College on Dec. 9 in Masters Gymnasium.
