
KC men drop first conference game to Lamar State-PA, 75-70
PORT ARTHUR, TX -- In their first conference action, the Rangers had a nine point lead at the half, but let the lead slip away and had to play catch up most of the second half. The result was a 75-70 road loss to the Lamar State-Port Arthur Seahawks.
With 17 seconds left in the contest and a Seahawks lead of 73-70, Lamar State missed a three-pointer, but grabbed the rebound on the bounce off the rim to force the Rangers to foul.
Bentravin Phillips for Lamar State made 1-of-2 free throws to put the game out of reach for KC with 10 seconds to go.
KC was led in scoring by Willie Williams and Jamil Muttilib, both scoring 18 points. Starter Peter Mckey scored 14 points and Ikechukwu Nwaobi came off the KC bench to score 9.
Williams also earned a double-double by grabbing 12 rebounds.
Cahmai Crosby scored 5 points and Thomas Hattaway added 3 points off the bench.
Lamar State had two players in double-figures, Phillips with 26 points and Jaylen Subject with 11.
With the loss, KC drops to 8-3 (0-1) and will face Blinn College Saturday at home.
